The "Tsunami" or tidal wave that followed the devasting earthquake wreaked incredible loss of human life and unbelievable destruction, leaving suvivors and victims missing families and friends and all familiar to them. No photo, no work of art, no words can every portray the human suffering felt by so many around the world. However, my husband Fouad Tawfilis could not sleep until he designed the central theme and figures that would be the genesis of our most passionate mural. The "T" in tsunami shows how the tidal wave surprized and overwhelmed the hundreds of thousands and perhaps millions of people. The "S" represents how the pressure, panic and grief that followed sent all of them to their knees in prayer and utter fright. The "U" represents the heaviness that anchors the fright and shock of our human psyche to the depths of despair. The "N" shows the human resolve and the determination to lift and push ones spirit from such horror. The "A"represents the persistent struggle of raising ones self to stand again on their feet and face what has happened and what lies ahead. The "M" represents the renewed strength one gets from the human characteristic of never giving up and to rise above whatever tragedy befalls them. The "I" shows the human being's ability to stand in the face of destruction and it's after math and start again with inner healing, and through the help andcompassion of you, and me, and each of us throughout the world
