The Art Miles Mural Project©
1. The Multicultural Diversity Mile is the first in a series of mural paintings
created by children as a means to promote peace and understanding among children
and cultures from all over the world, after the first mural was painted on
a bullet ridden sheet in a Bosnian orphanage. This inspired the creation of the first art
mile aimed at promoting respect and understanding, and reconciliation, and
was launched in Vienna, Austria in 1997.
2. The Environmental Mile was birthed
as a result of the outpouring of expression by child participants at the United
Nations Environment Program (UNEP) Millennium International Children’s Conference
(ICC) on the Environment held in Eastbourne, England in 2000, where over 1,000
children came together to find solutions to the deteriorating environment
and to follow up on initiatives of the Earth Summit held in Brazil in 1992.
This mile is dedicated to Jacques Cousteau and his grandchildren, Philippe
and Alexandra and will be donated to the first Children’s Environmental Museum,
Planete Exploration, now under construction in Geneva, Switzerland.
3. The Indigenous Peoples’ Mile was inspired
by the splendor of the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation’s Annual Pow Wow
the “Schemitzun”, or the Celebration of the Green Corn Dance. The goal is
to help Indigenous People and Communities worldwide to develop a “living
monument” to their rich cultural heritage and traditions, to portray and preserve
their inextricable environmental ties with nature and will be dedicated and
donated to the International Indigenous Youth Peace Summit 2006 hosts,
the Akwesasne Mohawk Territories who will establish a Culture of Peace Institution
with their territories designated as the Indigenous Peace Capital of the World
for the next 100 years.
4. The Women’s Mile celebrate the commemoration of International Women’s Day that is officially observed every 8th of March. This mile is dedicated to a courageous and life long woman humanist, whose artwork has served as an inspiration and healing vehicle to women worldwide, Artist Laurel Burch. This mile will represent and be painted by and for women of the world--a “clan” of millions of hearts and souls—their joys, sorrow, pain, successes, highs and lows…but most of all, LIFE.. Be sure to see the dedication mural painted in honor of Laurel Burch, by Silvia Pecha, Austrian Artist on our website.
5. The Senior Mural Mile will portray wisdom, experience, memories, that stimulate one’s mind when reflecting back or looking forward to a lifetime of journeys. Vivid and fading memories can be captured in this mural mile. This mile is dedicated to Mr. and Mrs. Guillermo Mesina as a tribute to their tenacity and traits that only life and experience can bring. This special mural
mile will provide seniors everywhere an opportunity to visually share the memories and pages of each wondrous life experience and will be launched in the winter/spring of 2003 in New York.
6. The Great Wall Mural Mile
is scheduled to launch in 2003 and will be comprised of the work of children
from all provinces in China to be unveiled at the Great Wall when completed.
11.
The Fairy Tale Mile
was inspired and will be dedicated to famed Austrian philanthropist and fairy
tale enthusiast (marchen – Radomir Runzelshuh), Ferry Ebert, who, together
with his wife, have dedicated their lives to collecting and publishing stories
by children. This mural mile promises
to be a lively and beautiful mile long story from children all over the world.
